How to convert a bank statement PDF to Excel
If you have ever retyped a bank statement into a spreadsheet, you know the job: a hundred rows, two columns of figures, and one typo that throws the whole month off. Parserje converts a bank statement PDF to Excel in your browser, free, so you start from clean rows instead of a blank sheet.
Here is the whole process. It takes about a minute for a statement downloaded from online banking.
Step 1: Open parserje.com
Nothing to install, no account, no card. The page is the tool.
Step 2: Drop in your PDF
Drag the file onto the page, or click to pick it. One bank and one account per file. If you have three accounts, convert three times, and you will thank yourself later when the figures need checking.
Step 3: Let it read the file
A statement downloaded from your bank carries a text layer, so the figures come across in seconds. A scanned or printed statement has to be read page by page as an image, which is slower. Parserje tells you which kind it is dealing with and asks first if the file is long. Leave the tab open while it works.
Step 4: Check the result line
Parserje reports how many rows it found and whether the figures tie out against the statement. Do two things before you move on:
- Compare the last balance in the table with the closing balance printed on your statement.
- Look at any row Parserje has flagged. A flag means it was unsure, not that it failed, and a glance at the PDF settles it.
Step 5: Download the Excel file
You get an .xlsx file with date, description, debit, credit and balance in their own columns. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice with no conversion.
That is it
From here the rows are yours: sort them, filter them, pivot them, or key them into your accounting software. If you want the result to be right every time, the habits that make a conversion accurate are worth five minutes. If the statement is headed for accounting software, read how to use the file with AutoCount, Bukku and Excel.
Questions people ask
Is it free?
Yes, free while Parserje is in beta. No account and no card.
Is my statement uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser. Load the page, convert once, switch on airplane mode, then convert your real statement: it still works with no connection.
Which banks work?
Maybank, CIMB, Bank Islam and BSN are the most tested. Other Malaysian banks often work. Tell us if yours does not.
